A customer in the plastics packaging industry required a solution for handling 25kg sacks of plastic polymers. Vac-Line recommended a portable sack and bag handling vacuum lifting solution to handle and decant the 25kg bags of plastic polymers into larger storage or feed bins minimising operator manual handling.

The vacuum lifting solution enables the operator to transfer the bags of plastic pellets easily and quickly from the pallet into storage bins or hoppers, removing the need for operator manual heavy lifting, and improving health and safety conditions. Previously, the operator would need to bend and twist to lift the sacks and reach to empty the contents into the hopper or storage bins.

The two-joint swing arm vacuum lifter with sack lifting attachment is the ideal solution for handling sacks or bags, in a variety of materials. The suction head can lift a range of sack material including porous plastic, non-porous plastic, and paper, without losing suction.

In addition, there is the option of a pump and tube upgrade to enable the operator to split the sacks and empty the contents into a hopper or storage bin whilst maintaining suction during the procedure, the sack still being held under vacuum.

The vacuum lifter was mounted to a counterbalance base plate. The base plate enables the vacuum lifter to be moved to multiple locations using a forklift truck. The lifters also have the options of permanent floor, ceiling, or wall mounted solutions.

These lifters can be supplied in painted mild steel or stainless steel 304/316 as required. The stainless-steel construction means these lifters are suitable for the food and pharmaceutical industries.

The vacuum lifter arms are manufactured as standard to give a 2.5m / 98” overall length and with the 360-degree rotation providing a footprint of optimum working space of up to 5m in diameter. This solution provided a 3m length offering a working space of 6m diameter, to ensure easy access from the sacks on pallets to the hopper or storage bins.

In addition, an optional adjustable mast geared mechanism features a handle to raise and lower the mast, suitable for use in restricted height areas, with an adjustment of up to 1 metre.
